The UK Turk Grid is a self contained virtual world within the larger family of OpenSim which stand for Open Simulator. It is very much like Second Life. It uses the same technology. People flocking here from Second Life or the now defunct Inworldz grid might be disappointed to find that OpenSim does not seem to have very many users. Second Life has thousands of active users and a great number of busy clubs and role play regions but it costs more and it is very much a commercial environment. Many of the grids ( independent worlds within OpenSim ) are not for profit organisations like the two biggest grids Metropolis and OS Grid.

Our grid is a great place for anyone looking to manage their own world or region within our grid. You decide who gets access to it, what content you put on it and you can use it to build your own creations safely without any fear of the grid owners stealing your objects. It is also very cost effective. A region in the UK Turk grid starts at just €5 ( 5 Euros ) against around $150 dollars in Second Life. That is a huge incentive. It is also why so many grids have builders and creators working away for 90% of the time on their own projects rather than socializing as they tend to do in Second Life.

If you have an Occulus Rift headset you can use this in any OpenSim world. If you come from Second Life or Inworldz then you pretty much already know how things work and it won't be completely alien to you. Even if you come from Active Worlds or Utherverse etc you will find many things are familiar to you and not very difficult to pick up. You can build things here. You can share projects with other people and build an entire community if you want. You can also backup and save your creations to be used later on another grid or even in Second Life.

Perhaps the best aspect of Opensim is the hypegrid. The hypergrid links many of the OpenSim grids to each other in a similar way that websites are linked to each other by a url. The only difference is that you teleport to whichever destination you fancy visiting. This means that you can live on a quiet and peaceful grid like the UKTurk Grid and then when you feel like a change or you want to socialize you just teleport to another destination. There are so many destinations to choose from. The Hypergrid Directory is a good place to start. You can also find

We are a small friendly team based in the UK and in Turkey so catch us in world if you need any help or are new to Opensim and we will try and help you as much as we can.  We won't steal your content and we currently have regions available for just €4 Euros ( $ 5 US dollars or £3.75 UK Sterling ).

Welcome Area

The Welcome area is where everyone first enters the world. There are billboards and signs that help you familiarize yourself with where everything is in the world. This is also a good place to meet people since they will always appear here by default if they are visiting the UKTurk Grid. From this start point you can visit the United Kingdom or Turkey just by clicking on the appropriate teleport board.

United Kingdom

United Kingdom region is the Welcome zone for all things British and the regions associated with this zone all have a British theme to them. Generally citizens from the UK will reside here or spend most of their time on their chosen region of this grid within the grid. We do hope that our Turkish friends will come and visit from time to time. Come and join us for a cup of team or coffee.

Welcome to Wales | Croeso i Gymru

This region features a huge Welsh Castle, a typical Welsh village street and some small shops. There is a visitor centre and a museum planned for the future. Work still in progress this region captures the feel of Wales and has some impressive mountains in the background. There is one shop available with free rental and a couple of houses.

Turkey

As with the UK region this is the Welcome zone for all things Turkish and the regions associated with this zone all have a Turkish theme to them. Generally citizens from Turkey will reside here or spend most of their time on their chosen region of this grid within the grid. We do hope that our British friends will come and visit from time to time. Come and join us for a Turkish coffee or tea!

Freebies

This region is completely dedicated to everything that is free. If you want freebies then this is where it is all at. The original Linda Kellie warehouse has been changed considerably. New items have been added and it has a fresh and vibrant feel about it. Gone is the old arched roof that used to cause so much lag and in with the new pastel coloured decoration. Like anything else in life, everything needs an upgrade once in a while. Just outside this huge mall is another freebies mall where you can take up your own shop and offer freebies or information office about your own grid or interests.

Motorworld

Motorworld is a complete region dedicated to transport. Probably one of the largest collections of vehicles in OpenSim can be found on this region. From trucks, buses to motorcycles there are several galleries available with a huge selection to choose from. Also a limited number of railway items. We have also just opened a Maritime region which houses many boats and yachts.

Sandbox

This is our sandbox region with its Builders Supply depot, a completely revamped version of the Linda Kellie store found on similar sandbox regions.

London

Our London region features a full scaled down version of Buckingham Palace. In the distance you can see the Houses of Parliament and this London theme has a large communal square where people can meet and events can be held. There are a couple of shops available on this region but it is not suitable for residential use at present. This may change in the future.

Istanbul

Where East meets West that ancient city of Constantinople. This region does not truly reflect the grandeur of this ancient city but it does have plenty of residential plots and some shops for freebies or Turkish goods. Essentially if the theme is Turkish then it fits on this region. So, if you fancy a villa in Turkey then claim one of these plots for personal residential use.

Hogwarts Forever

This is a large region with plenty of exploring to do. You start off at the large Hogwarts Hall and find your way into the magical Harry Potter version of London with its Harry Potter housing estate, shops, London theme and hidden away in the centre of the city you find the old world of magical mystery with its cobbled streets and quaint shops. You can lose yourself on this sim and take time out to explore the hidden places with plenty of surprises.

West Midlands

If you fancy living in the West Midlands and taking up residence there then we have residential housing and some shops available here. There are some old terraces houses and some rather grand Georgian properties. The leafy wooded areas make this quite a peaceful and harmonious place to hangout with a few friends. At some point in the near future this region is going to be re-worked but any existing properties that have tenants will be left alone.

Izmir

This is the third largest city in Turkey with a population of around 4 million. It is very cosmopolitan and with easy access to the coastal areas. It is the second largest port after Istanbul. Our region has a small beach area, some shops and some very spacious luxury apartments. If you fancy taking up residence in a coastal resort then this might be just what you are looking for.

Scotland

This region contains the enchanted forest with its hidden secrets and caves. There is a small woodcutters house and a strange castle. This beautiful natural and very scenic landscape depicts an era long ago. Lose yourself in the forest and explore. This is a nice peaceful place to hangout or explore with a friend.

Canakkale

Famous for its historic connection with Gallipoli ( Gelibolu ) this region of Turkey is green and full of olive groves. Water is plentiful here and it is predominantly an agricultural county. The Dardenelles, that all important and strategic strait has the city of Canakkale on the one side and the town of Eceabat on the other. The nearby island of Bozceada is a popular tourist destination and popular with locals from Istanbul. The ancient ruins of Troy are nearby.

Pirates Island

This rogue island is the devil's paradise. A dark and sinister place where the pirates and traders can dock their vessels and get up to no good. With its old wooden buildings and Caribbean landscape the ships in the harbor look ready to sail at a moments notice. There are no homes here and no shops to rent but it is a busy place and a step back in time.

Ankara

The capital city of Turkey. This region does not show much of the modern city of Ankara and there are no homes or shops to rent here. However, if you want to see the impressive Anitkabir (literally, "memorial tomb") is the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the leader of the Turkish War of Independence and the founder of modern Turkey.

Free Land & Housing

As you travel around the other regions you will start to see the familiar rental box signs laid out on available land and properties. Just contact Uncle Hamdi or Emerelda Sunlight "inworld" or via our chat facility from within UKTurk Grid or directly from the menu of this website. This is sure to get someone's attention quickly.

Your own region on UKTurk Grid

If you would like to join us and have your own hosted region on the UKTurk grid then we can provide complete regions for as little as $5. Just visit our Order Region page from the menu of this website. There are plenty of options for you there.

Showcasing your region

If you have built something that you are proud of and want to be added to the teleport boards and this website then just click on the chat link and talk to us. In the meantime why not check out the regions not featured here like Ada, the remote and beautiful little island where you can just chill and chat to your closest friends. It is so remote that it seldom gets visitors. You will probably be the only ones there!

Beta Mode

Beta Mode means that this entire virtual world and the underlying Opensim software is still under development and in test mode. Therefore it is safe to assume that there is no stable release and from time to time there may be partial or total loss of data for which the UKTurk Grid assumes no liability and offers no compensation for the loss of same.

How to Enter our World

If you are a first time user this can be quite demanding trying to figure out what is going on. Once you have registered and chosen your avatar you will want to enter the world. You need a special browser for this. If you have a Second Life account then you will be familiar with this process. We recommend Firestorm viewer.

Once you have installed the viewer you need to add the UKTurk Grid to it. This is actually quite a simple process with Firestorm. Once you have opened the browser click on Viewer then Preferences and then Opensim. A window will open like the one below.

To become a citizen of the UKTurk Grid just go to the login form on the main home page of our website and click on the appropriate link. By registering with us you acknowledge that you have read the Terms of Service and Copyright Policy information and that you will observe the few rules that we have and our zero tolerence to insulting behaviour, racial discrimination and that you promise to repect the cultural or religious beliefs or differences between nations and peoples. Now all you need to do is paste this line of text into the very top line just underneath where it says Add new grid

Now hit the apply button - That's it! As if by magic all the information then gets filled in for you and your open window now looks like this:

That's it. You are done. Your browser window should now look something like this:

Just enter your name like Emerelda here and then your password. Remember to tick both the Remember Username and Remember password boxes so that you don't have to type that in each time you want to login. Click the shiny big orange Login button and we will see you there. Have fun!

Inworld Support

For Inworld Support look out for Emerelda Sunlight or Uncle Hamdi. You may also leave messages with Sara Melek. You are welcome to add them as friends. For technical support for your own region please refer to the details on our Order Region section.

The Hypergrid

This grid is Hypergrid Enabled which means that you can use your UKTurk Grid avatar to travel to other grids. So, you can be based here in UKTurk Grid and travel pretty much to any open grid within the opensim community. There are absolutely hundreds if not thousands of destinations. A good list of places to visit can be found here: http://opensimworld.com/

Getting to the UKTurk Grid from another grid

You should be able to travel directly to the UKTurk Grid by simply pasting the following: http://ukturk-grid.info:8002/ into your map.

If this does not work and you are struggling to get to the UKTurk Grid and the message in your map keeps telling you that the region cannot be found then try the following:

http://ukturk-grid.info:8002:Welcome

or ukturk-grid.info:8002/

Owning Land

You can get your little piece of free Real Estate by asking Emerelda Sunlight or Uncle Hamdi In World and they will direct you to either the UK section or the Turkish section of the grid where you can choose from a selection of places that are available. Whilst you have been travelling around you probably noticed Rent Boxes dotted around which indicate which places are available. The only thing we insist on is that you visit our grid at least once a month. Failure to do this will result in the cancellation of your rental and the return of your property.

Purchasing Land

Please visit our Order Region section for full details on how to acquire your own region on this grid.

Shopping & Content

There are two types of shopping that you can access on this grid. There is the Market Place on the Commercial District region and Free Shopping with a huge warehouse and individual shops at the Hypergrid Depot region.

Building & Building Materials

On the Sandbox region there is a well stocked Builders Supply depot and a large sandbox.

Tweaking your Browser

If your computer is a modern up to date machine with good graphics you can tweak the settings to get the maximum graphics experience out of the grid.

Normally in Firestorm the graphics are set automatically to the best setting for your computer. The Preferences tab which you went to when you configured the viewer for opensim is where you can change all the main settings. The first thing to change has nothing to do with graphics but it addresses the annoying way which your avatar tries to type everything in chat. If you find that your avatar is busily using an imaginary keyboard as soon as you chat then under the Avatar tab, select Preferences and then Chat and finally the Typing tab. Untick the "play typing animation when typing". That's it. Problem solved.

Now lets take a look at the graphics. When you are inworld the first thing you notice is that some things further away do not render properly until you get close to them. This is easily resolved by changing the draw distance. Go to Preferences, then Graphics tab and then in this section change the draw distance to about mid way to around 500m.

You can also change water reflection, shadows and the terrain and sky. Rather than go through each setting individually here is how my own PC is set up for maximum effect. You can just change your settings to mirror this and drop them back if your PC starts to struggle.

Finally, don't forget to have your speakers on in order to hear the sounds inworld and a headset and mic if you intend to talk rather than type.

Firestorm Viewer Support

Firestorm has an excellent FAQ's section with very detailed information regarding common viewer issues in Second Life and Opensim grids. Simple problems such as your avatar remaining as a cloud or objects that randomly disappear are all covered in the FAQ's section. Often an issue in world is resolved by making changes to the viewer settings and this documentation can be invaluable for users.
